Application for the Teatrogranty program

We submitted an application to the Teatrogranty 2025 program in Katowice. Although we did not receive funding this time, we’d like to share our idea and the experiences we gained during the process.

In May 2025, we submitted an application to the Teatrogranty program in Katowice. Our goal was to create a unique artistic event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the tragic death of Konrad Swinarski – a renowned Polish director.

As part of this year’s Summer Theatre Garden , we aimed to organize a panel exhibition and the ceremonial unveiling of a temporary sculpture by Bogumił BurzyńskiWe also planned to screen a documentary film and introduce the figure of Swinarski to a wider audience – both the devoted attendees of the Summer Theatre Garden and the residents of Katowice.

Although the project did not receive funding from Teatrogranty, we still believe in its value and significance.

What was the project about?

The project was intended as an open-air exhibition displayed throughout the entire duration of the festival, set in the arcades of Katowice City of Gardens. The highlight of the event was to be the unveiling of a sculpture (made of acrylic resin) on August 16th, in the main hall of the Katowice City of Gardens.

Who is behind it?

The project was submitted by the Bogumił Burzyński Foundation for Silesia, Culture and Art, with the support and collaboration of well-known figures from Katowice’s cultural scene:

  • Bogumił Burzyński - sculptor, author of the project

  • Mirosław Neinert – director of the Korez Theatre and the Summer Theatre Garden

  • Maria Katarzyna Gliwa – curator of the exhibition

  • Prof. Józef Opalski – expert on Swinarski’s work

  • Sergiusz Brożek – artistic support for the project

What's next?

Although we were unable to secure funding from Teatrogranty to present the project, this does not mark the end of the initiative. We still believe in the importance of commemorating Swinarski in the public space of Katowice, and we will continue to seek other forms of support — financial, institutional, and community-based.

This project is more than just an exhibition. It is the beginning of a larger process that — with your support — can become a lasting reality.
